Eligibility and Program Costs
ELIGIBILITY
Teach Baton Rouge provides an accelerated path into teaching for accomplished professionals and recent college graduates. It is specifically designed for people without prior experience as a licensed teacher.
To be considered for the program, you must:
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
The following table outlines required Praxis II exams by subject area:
Early Childhood Grades PK-3 Praxis II Elementary Education Multiple Subject Test Code 5001
Elementary Grades 1-5 Elementary Education Multiple Subject Test Code 5001
Middle School Math Grades 4-8 Test Code 5169
Middle School Science Grades 4-8 Test code 5440
Middle School English/Language Arts Grades 4-8 Test Code 5047

We will provide more detailed guidance about testing deadlines and requirements upon admission to the program. Once admitted, we encourage you to register as early as possible because testing dates are limited and some candidates require multiple attempts to earn a passing score.
NOTE: Eligibility and academic requirements are established by the Louisiana Department of Education and are therefore non-negotiable and subject to change.
TUITION AND FEES
As a Teach Baton Rouge Fellow, you are responsible for TNTP Academy tuition and fees, which will total $4,700 during the 2021-22 school year. No tuition is due until September 2021, and then you can pay the $4,700 in full or in 10 installments throughout the 2021-2022 school year.
Teach Baton Rouge will pay a small stipend for attending the summer institute.
CERTIFICATION AND DISTRICT HIRING COSTS
You are responsible for all costs associated with certification through the Louisiana Department of Education, including fees for any required examinations (Praxis exams are about $160 each). In addition, Louisiana requires all teachers have their fingerprints processed for a background check which cost $49.25.

- Hold a bachelor’s degree (conferred by June 1, 2021) with at least a 2.50 GPA from an accredited institution
- Meet all legal requirements to work in the United States.
- Pass a criminal background check before the start of the summer institute.
- Meet all Louisiana academic and testing requirements.
- Not possess, or have ever held, a professional teaching license from any state; substitute, emergency, conditional or temporary certificates are acceptable.
- Not possess an education degree that would make you eligible for certification.

If you are taking the Praxis I and or Praxis II for Early Childhood/Elementary the East Baton Rouge Parish Library has free practice tests.

- You will put in your library card number and then select career preparation.
- Select prepare for an occupation exam.
- Select Teaching.
- On the site you will find the Praxis I Core Tests study guides and practice tests for the 5712, 5722 and 5732 tests.
There is also the Praxis II subject assessments. You will use the Practice tests for the sub tests for the Early Childhood/Elementary content knowledge test.
